The following are student representative seats on various University councils and committees. As part of ASI’s commitment to shared governance, student representatives are involved in the enforcement and execution of academic and university policies and the review and development of policy recommendations on a wide variety of academic and campus issues.
Acts on undergraduate student petitions for exceptions to University policies.
Meets every other Thursday from 2–4 p.m.
To receive requests of students accused of cheating or plagiarism or requests of faculty accusing specified student(s) of cheating or plagiarism.
Meets on as-needed basis.
Serves as the primary advisory body to the Academic Senate and University administration on matters related to academic policy and philosophy for Athletics. The Director of Athletics reports to the Committee on all changes in the budget, staffing, scheduling, fund-raising, and other matters vital to the conduct of Athletics.
Meets once a month, date and time to be determined.
Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the Academic Senate regarding all new and existing policies and statements governing graduate and undergraduate curriculum, academic programs, academic standards, educational policy, and may initiate recommendations for change for the successful implementation of those policies. The Council shall also be responsible for the formation and implementation of policies pertaining to the University’s General Education requirements.
Meets 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 2-4 p.m.
Advises University bodies involved in the planning, development, implementation, and application of technology campus-wide, including the University Library and the Campus Information Technology Committee (CITC), on faculty and student issues related to academic technology.
Meets 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11 AM – 12:15 PM
Responsible for approval and periodic review of individual courses, as well as periodic review of the entire program.
Meets monthly.
Carries out the grade appeal functions specified in the University Policy Statement 99-16, Grade Appeal Procedure.
Meets as needed.
Oversees the procedures for the administration of the CSULB Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE). Approves other examinations that can be used to satisfy the GWAR, and sets minimum passing scores for them. Approves other assessments of academic writing in English connected to upper-division, writing-intensive courses.
Meets 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month at 1 p.m.
The Advisory Board shall have the authority to recommend the initial level of the Instructionally Related Activities Fee, which is to be assessed of all regularly enrolled students (except in those cases where the Student Services Fee is waived) and to review and to recommend for approval or disapproval requests for allocation of fee revenue. These recommendations may be forwarded to other campus committees, councils, or organizations as appropriate and will be forwarded to the President for final campus action or, if required by the Trustees, for recommendation to the Trustees or Chancellor of The California State University and Colleges.
Hearings are held in January. Two meetings are held prior to January. The dates and times are determined by the members.
Explores and develops the international connections of CSULB. Encourages links among those with common interests in international affairs or particular global regions and helps sustain their efforts. Supports the work of the Center for International Education. Fosters the internationalization of the curriculum and encourages international experience among the faculty.

The recipients of these awards are individuals who have shown exceptional performance. Each award has its own administrative procedures governing the nomination and selection processes.

Reviews University financial reports and makes recommendations. Reviews, evaluates, sets priorities where appropriate, and make recommendations on fiscal and business matters and such other support functions as instructional resources, allocation of faculty positions, allocation of space, institutional support budget, athletics budget, and self-support programs.

The DEIA-CCC promotes an inclusive and equitable campus climate that fosters belonging. It collaborates with the Academic Senate, university leadership, and campus partners to review policies and assess the impacts of local, state, and federal decisions on equity.
Responsible for approval and periodic review of individual courses, as well as periodic review of the entire program.
The mission of the LGBTQIA+CCC is to collaborate with all segments of the University to recruit, retain, and promote the success of LGBTQIA+ students, staff, faculty, and administrators. The LGBTQIA+CCC also supports educational programs that promote increased understanding of LGBTQIA+ and other diversity issues for all students in preparation for careers in diverse settings.
The Institutional and Program Assessment Council (IPAC) advises the Academic Senate and university administration on assessment and program review for degree programs and academic support units. It also oversees institutional assessment, including outcomes tied to the University’s Strategic Planning Process.
The Graduate Studies Advisory Committee (GSAC) supports graduate student success, program quality, and faculty who work with graduate students on research and creative activities. It identifies effective practices, recommends policies and procedures, and coordinates initiatives to improve graduate education.
The President’s Commission on the Status of Women advocates for the needs of women students, faculty, staff, and administrators at CSULB. It works to remove inequities and promote a supportive educational, workplace, and social environment. The commission initiates and implements actions that address women’s concerns across the university community. Its mission is to ensure the status of women is continually strengthened and enhanced.
The President’s Commission on Sustainability (PCS) promotes climate justice, environmental equity, and sustainable practices across campus and the community. It connects students with partners, integrates diverse knowledge systems, and addresses systemic issues like racism, colonialism, and patriarchy in environmental contexts.
The President’s Equity & Change Commission (PECC) was established to transform systemic inequities and advance inclusive excellence at CSULB. It integrates diversity, equity, and educational inclusion into institutional operations, teaching, research, and community engagement.
This commission aligns CSULB’s strengths with the evolving economic and workforce needs of students, the city, and the broader region. It brings together campus and community experts to advise the president on policies that position the university as a key anchor institution. The commission supports CSU’s Student Success Framework by promoting career pathways, applied learning opportunities, and inclusive economic growth.
The purpose of the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) shall be advisory to the President or designee and the Student Health Center on the scope of service, delivery, funding, and other critical issues relating to campus health services (CSU Chancellor Executive Order 943).
The CSULB Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) Steering Committee is a group of individuals from various colleges, divisions and departments that help make decisions on the direction of ATI. Several sub-committees meet and report their decisions to the main steering committee.
The purpose of the AI Technology Implementation Steering Committee is to explore, evaluate, and provide guidance on the implementation of AI technologies at CSULB. In this work, we aim to help anticipate challenges associated with the use of these technologies and propose resources to address them.
