Straight from the heart of Inglewood comes a sound that wraps around you
like a warm embrace on a cool California evening. Sir Darryl Andrew Farris,
stage name SiR, who got signed to the
Top Dog Entertainment (TDE)-signed musicians whose melodies flow as smooth as butter, bringing an
authenticity to R&B and soul that resonates from street corners to
streaming platforms worldwide.
Like Blxst, SiR collaborated with Kendrick Lamar in his song “Hair Down” through TDE. More presently, he worked on the song “MOB” with Kal Banx in January of this year.
His musical tapestry weaves together traditions of soul music with
contemporary R&B textures, creating something both timeless and
refreshing. This is shown through his most popular tracks such as “That’s Why I Love You” featuring Sabrina Claudio and “John Redcorn.” Each track feels like an intimate and genuine conversation: sometimes a
confession, sometimes a celebration.
At only five years old, SiR began singing at the church and at home his
mother would make him match pitch in front of the piano. Years later, while
overcoming homelessness he dropped his first EP/album called
Wooden Voodoo
on SoundCloud where he intentionally produced and engineered all on his own
in 2012.
SiR in that same year, worked for Tyrese Gibson as an audio engineer.
However, he got tired of hiding behind other people’s music through his
talents and finally allowed himself to be in the public eye. In 2018, SiR
toured alongside
Miguel’s War and Leisure Tour
with Nonchalant Savant, making it his first major tour.
When SiR’s vocals come on, his voice floats through the speakers as if
you’re being transported to the neighborhoods that shaped him in Inglewood
through his lyricism, telling stories of love, loss, growth, and redemption
that could only come from his unique perspective.
In a musical landscape often dominated by fleeting trends, SiR stands as a
testament to the enduring power of soulful expression—a torchbearer for a
sound that speaks directly to human experience, one heartfelt note at a
time.
Now our Long Beach State community has an opportunity to immerse themselves
into the world of R&B and Soul through SiR’s music at ASI’s Beach Bash
on Friday, April 25. Tickets can be purchased through
asicsulb.org/beachbash.
